Ok ok so I’m a bit peeved because I was knocked back by the ABC.  And by the way everyone thanks for all your support and best wishes in my quest to get Wrokdown onto a commercial station.  After all, though C31 has been great to me, I am not a sales person’s bottom hole – I am just someone with passion, and for me to try and break down doors for advertising money – well that’s just not me.

Whilst reading through my ‘thanks but no thanks’ letter, a couple of points have been niggling at me, so here are my thoughts.

The ABC would like to say that they ‘offer various opportunities for interviews’ for the type of artist Wrokdown provides.  As far as I am concerned this means ‘Spicks and Specks’ where our artists are given very little interview time.  But if not for these legendary musicians, there would BE no ‘Spicks and Specks’.  This sort of show relies on people of our demographic to watch the show because of these legends.  We certainly wouldn’t be there if the young musicians were providing the music.  I bring to mind a recent episode of one of the music quiz shows where one of our legends was playing with a younger generational ‘star’.  It was pitiful trying to watch the star – completely out of her league – trying to match the guy.  In fact it was embarrassing!  And I’m sure this isn’t the only instance.

But the real point to me is, it’s all great for our commercial stations to beat themselves on the chest and gloat about having a past legend on their show, as if they are doing a great big favour.  They’ll get the young star to do a song from their new cd, then Kev, or Mike, or Caddie, or whoever it may be, gets to sing their hit from 40 years ago.  What about something from their new CD, or the one before that, or that, or that??  Really, what good is it at all to our guys to be on these shows except for a little bit of spotlight?

We are trying to teach our kids respect.  We’ve excelled ourselves and pulled these big poppies down till there’s no-where else to go.  They haven’t got day jobs, music is all they have ever known, and – like Lobbie - they’ll go to their graves doing what they do best.
